Taito-ku is a walkable, culture-focused ward in east-central Tokyo. Ueno and Okachimachi are useful when JR access, shopping, food, and parks all matter together; Asakusa has strong local character, where the street mood itself is part of the appeal; and Kuramae and Asakusabashi bring cafes, craft, and office access together without forcing a west-side lifestyle. Ueno, Asakusa, Kuramae, and Asakusabashi are all useful when culture, food, and east-central access matter.
Tourist energy and daily convenience are not the same thing, so it is worth checking the street you will actually repeat day to day rather than judging by the sightseeing crowds. If central Taito starts to feel tight, compare Chuo, Sumida, Bunkyo, and Chiyoda-side choices before narrowing further.

Working with Tomo and his team at AtHearth made my move to Tokyo so much less stressful and so much more successful than it would have been otherwise. I had good Japanese but had never lived in Japan before and had an unusual visa/salary situati...
